  • Kylie Jenner received widespread backlash on social media this week for her frequent private jet use for flights as short as 17 minutes. The issue shined light on the negative effects of private jet travel, calling the reality star a “full time climate criminal”.

  • According to data from Cruise Sheet, cruises are the cheapest way to travel this summer, with nearly 2,000 cruises costing under $100 a day, and some even cost less than $50 a day.

  • Travel advisors are urging more American tourists to secure bookings to Europe as the US dollar and Euro become virtually equal. 

  • Costa Rica has approved a digital nomad visa for foreign workers, allowing foreign remote workers and their families to apply and stay for up to two years.

  • The digital nomad lifestyle is still on the rise, with studies estimating 35.7 million Americans, 22% of the workforce, to become fully remote by 2025.

  • Summer travel in Europe continues to face disruptions by staffing shortages causing long lines, delays, lost luggage and last-minute flight cancellations. In an effort to combat the chaos, London’s Heathrow Airport announced plans to limit the number of passengers passing through its airport until mid-September. 

  • With the installation of the new Credential Authentication Technology, more than 100 airports across the country will begin allowing passengers to simply scan their government ID, instead of a boarding pass, to get through security.

  • Alaska Airlines will soon roll out electronic bag tags to make the checking process easier for its frequent fliers. The electronic bag tag will allow travelers to skip the printing tag process and check their luggage from any location

COVID-Related Updates

  • The CDC recently moved Colombia, Iraq, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Paraguay to the Level 3 high-risk category, while popular destinations such as Australia, the Cayman Islands, South Africa, Thailand, Anguilla, The Bahamas, Chile, The British Virgin Islands, and Belize, have eliminated all COVID-19 travel restrictions. 

  • U.S. National Parks reinstated their mask mandate as the new BA.5 COVID-19 variant is on the rise. While the rules may vary from park to park, masks are required to be worn on all enclosed forms of transportation.
