  • Elon Musk announced that he has chosen NBCUniversal’s previous advertising executive Linda Yaccarino as Twitter’s next CEO.

  • Fast fashion brand Shein is being investigated by the US-China Economic Security Review Commission over alleged unfair labor practices and copyright infringement. The retailer is being accused of underpaying and forcing labor from workers in Xinjiang, China. 

Industry Insights

  • The Biden Administration plans to require airlines to issue compensation, on top of refunds, to travelers affected by airline delays and cancellations in a continued strengthening of airline passengers’ protections.

  • The Federal Aviation Administration approved aviation companies' plans for companies to develop air taxis. As opposed to planes, air taxis will run much shorter distances and use helipads, likely to be delivered by 2025.

  • Emirates plans to invest $200 million over the next three years to contribute to sustainability projects in commercial aviation such as advanced fuel and energy solutions for aviation. Emirates’ Environmental Sustainability Executive Steering Group will be responsible for the fund and for identifying partnership opportunities.

  • Luxury car brand, Porsche, partnered with Nobu Hotel Atlanta to create the first-ever immersive Porsche-themed hospitality experience with accommodations and exclusive amenities. The new Porsche Icon Suite and Porsche Classic Room feature Porsche-inspired art and decor, as well as exclusive memorabilia celebrating iconic Porsche moments.

  • Uber and travel booking platform Hopper partnered to launch a new flight booking tool in the UK as a trial for other markets. This tool will allow users to book international flights right in the app as the company aims to create a “one-stop-shop” for all travel. 

  • In partnership with TripAdvisor, beauty brand Revlon launched its #GetColorStayed Sweepstakes, allowing one winner and a guest of their choosing to be treated to a VIP three-night stay at a five-star hotel in Miami Beach. The winner will also receive a personal make-up artist, as well as all the products from the new Revlon ColorStay line.

  • Adventures by Disney announced a new guided trip inspired by the animated Disney movie  Encanto. The tour will take travelers through the capital city, Bogota, the Coffee Region, Cocora Valley, and the coastal city of Cartagena.

  • Athletic apparel retailer Lululemon offered a ‘dupe swap’ for those who purchased dupes, cheaper versions, of its Align legging from other brands. In LA, Lululemon gave customers a free pair of Align leggings if they returned their dupes in an effort to prove the value of the original product.
